Industry Construction

A power station, also referred to as a power plant or powerhouse and sometimes generating station or generating plant, is an industrial facility for the generation of electric power. Most power stations contain one or more generators, a rotating machine that converts mechanical power into electrical power.

Our identification

We are the PreussenElektra, a team of dedicated women and men.

  • We are at home in Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Bavaria. Language may be different to us - what holds us together is our passion for nuclear technology and our closeness to our region.
  • Every single one of us ensures that our nuclear power plants are safe. Be it on the shift, in radiation protection or in the planning office. Day and night. 365 days a year. That we can do that, we have shown in the last decades. We will do that until the last day.

Nuclear power plant Brokdorf

The nuclear power plant Brokdorf is located in Schleswig-Holstein, near the city Glückstadt, on the Elbe. It was put into operation in 1986 and since then stands for an exceptionally successful operation. In terms of annual power supply, it has been among the world's top ten nuclear power plants 21 times. Of these alone 12 times in the top three and has twice production world champion.

With the accelerated phasing out of Germany from nuclear energy in 2011, the Brokdorf power plant will cease its power operation by December 31, 2021 at the latest.

Nuclear power plant Isar

The Isar nuclear power plant is located in Lower Bavaria, in the district of Landshut, on the Isar. Block 1 was put into operation in 1979 and Block 2 in 1988 for the first time.

In March 2011, the Isar 1 power plant was shut down with a total of seven other nuclear power plants as part of Germany's decision to phase out nuclear power. The decommissioning and decommissioning license was granted in January 2017.

The Isar 2 nuclear power plant continues to make an important contribution to a secure power supply in Bavaria. At the end of 2022, the power plant block loses its entitlement to power operation.
